The Void

By Jeffrey Gertner

Spiritually speaking “the void” is the absence of anything that has already been made manifest. It is the starting point of manifestation. In Shamanism as well as other spiritual practices, it can be used to transmute the energy of something that no longer serves, such as a fear or a belief system that one has outgrown, but clings to out of familiarity.

As a person goes through life, they gain experience and accumulate knowledge. But they also develop a way of looking at life, a belief about life. Some of these beliefs are due to situations that were difficult, especially as a child, and these beliefs stick with us as we grow into adults. Sometimes these beliefs are old and outdated and no longer serve us. (Beliefs are the basis for many of the emotional reactions we have, so a strong negative emotion is often the result). Any view of the world which is not in keeping with the truth of who we truly are is a hindrance to full Divine expression... and so there is no such thing as a little misconception! Every “twisted” view of the world no matter small it might seem, when released and reworked, is a step toward embracing your full Divinity, and in that sense, every release is a big deal. This is where the Void as an aid in the release process can help once you've identified an energy (emotion, belief, attitude) you are ready to release and transform. Working with the Void some years now, I have found it to be the place of pre-creation, the conduit between the unmanifested and the manifested such that when a creation comes into existence in the manifested realm, it is supported by a flow of energy from the unmanifested realm. And when a manifestation has completed its purpose, the energy that supports it returns to the unmanifested realm. In this way the Void can be used to consciously return old energies to the unmanifested for the purpose of some other creation.

Once something has been found that you are ready to release, it helps to relax into it. If you are having trouble relaxing, take three slow, deep breaths. If it helps you to focus you can close your eyes (although it isn't necessary to do so). Once you are relaxed and focused, lightly hold that which you want to release in your hands as a mental image. The idea is to acknowledge what it is you are ready to release and to acknowledge you created it. The understanding is that you are a being of Light, a magnificent child of Source made in the image of the Creator, and as such, you not only have the power to create, but the power to uncreate, be it emotional states or situations in your life. The creation you are now uncreating has served its purpose and you are ready to release it. Keeping this in mind, say the following words out loud or as clear focused thoughts.

It has come to my attention that I have created the energy of ______ (fill in the blank). I take full responsibility for this creation and as such I have the power to uncreate it. I now release this energy to the Void to be transmuted into loving or neutral energy for the purpose of some other manifestation, as the manifestation of ______ no longer suits who and what I am now and what I want to become.

At this point, pause and take a deep breath... you may feel an inner shift or chills. After a few moments or minutes, when it feels complete, it is done.
